#45: Toter Mann (Something to Remind me)(2002)

(Note: Original date of viewing is somewhere between Jan 19 and Jan 22, so this should be #16. I really can't be bothered to edit 28 posts but I still want to make this a January movie, so there you go.)

#15: Garbage Dreams (2009)

Decent activist film that's more about social and racial matters than environment. At about an hour, it's just the right length.

#14: House (1977)

This movie's garnered so much praise -- both from cinephiles and Criterion who's releasing it in the US in selected theatres -- that I had to check it out.  I knew before viewing that it's mostly visual with little story, but the effects are supposed to be dazzling.  Well... once again it proved that I'm not the kind who can enjoy a movie purely on effects alone.  I'm not even sure the effects were that great, either.  Yeah, I was pretty disappointed.  Live and learn.

#10: Seconds (1966)

#9: Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)

I guess I'm just not a Wes Anderson fan. Nor have I read anything from Roald Dahl. Anyway, the only positive thing for me about this movie was George Clooney's amusing voice acting.

#8: A Good Lawyer's Wife (바람난 가족)(2003)

It's like Im's President's Last Bang, but with lots more sex.

#6: Rancho Notorious (1952)

This movie was such a letdown. It's supposed to be somewhat of a cult classic, yet another hybrid of Western and Film Noir like Johnny Guitar. Unfortunately the story is simple, dialogue is unremarkable, and cinematography is just acceptable. C'mon, it's a Fritz Lang movie! With Marlene Dietrich! Yeesh.

#5: The Bridge (2006)

While this is one haunting and unforgettable documentary on people who committed suicides on the Golden Gate Bridge, I can't help but wishing the doc could be more about the bridge itself. As it was, the topic of the bridge itself was almost coincidental. Maybe I shouldn't complain; it's a laudable excuse to discuss suicides, none of which involved a terminal illness.

#2: The Blind Side (2009)

#1: The Countess (2009)

A slow-paced chamber drama that at first seems to have nothing in common with Julie Delpy's first feature, 2 Days in Paris. In the end though, just like 2 Days, it's another film of Delpy's unusual approach to love stories, this time featuring Bathory. All in all, I admire the movie, particularly its construction, more than I'd say liking it.
